Concussion Recovery Support

Specialized Care for the Physical and Neurological Effects of Head Trauma

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) that occurs when the brain is jolted inside the skull during an accident or fall. While many patients are “cleared” by the ER once a brain bleed is ruled out, they are often left with lingering symptoms like dizziness, light sensitivity, and brain fog. At Empire Rehab Clinics, we specialize in the cervical-concussion connection. Since the force required to cause a concussion is significantly higher than the force required to cause whiplash, many “concussion” symptoms are actually rooted in the upper neck. Our Georgia-based team provides the specialized care needed to resolve these physical barriers to your recovery.

The Connection Between the Neck and the Brain

Most concussion patients also suffer from upper cervical misalignments that mimic or worsen cognitive symptoms.

The top two vertebrae in your neck (the Atlas and Axis) surround the brainstem and critical blood vessels. When these are shifted during a head impact, it can disrupt the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and irritate the nerves that control balance and vision. At Empire Rehab, we don’t treat the brain injury itself; instead, we treat the structural “bottleneck” in the neck. By realigning the upper spine, we help clear the neurological interference that often keeps concussion patients in a state of chronic discomfort.

Symptoms We Support

Concussion recovery is a multi-system process. We commonly help manage:

Post-Traumatic Dizziness & Vertigo:

Resolving balance issues caused by misaligned joints in the upper neck.

Chronic Fatigue & Brain Fog:

Improving spinal function to reduce the "neurological load" on your recovering brain.

Vision & Tracking Issues:

Addressing the cervical nerves that coordinate with the eyes and inner ear.

Persistent Neck Pain & Stiffness:

Relieving the underlying whiplash that nearly always accompanies a head impact.

Our Concussion Support Process

At Empire Rehab Clinics, we follow a safe, low-stimulation approach to your recovery:

  • Step 1: Specialized Neurological Screen: We assess your balance, coordination, and upper-neck alignment to identify physical triggers for your symptoms.

  • Step 2: Gentle, Precision Adjustments: Using specialized, low-force techniques to realign the upper cervical spine without any jarring movements.

  • Step 3: Integrated Vestibular Rehab: We guide you through gentle exercises designed to retrain your balance and improve your functional stability across Georgia.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is it safe to see a chiropractor right after a concussion?

Yes, once life-threatening issues (like a brain bleed) have been ruled out by a medical doctor. We use extremely gentle, non-rotational techniques that are specifically designed for sensitive, post-trauma patients.

It takes about 60-100 Gs of force to cause a concussion, but only 4-5 Gs to cause whiplash. If you hit your head hard enough to sustain a concussion, your neck was almost certainly injured in the process.

Many patients with symptoms lasting longer than 3 weeks find that their “unresolved concussion” is actually an “unresolved neck injury.” Treating the neck often provides the breakthrough they need.

Absolutely. We believe in a multi-disciplinary approach and are happy to share our clinical findings with your neurologist, primary care physician, and personal injury attorney.
